About Thailand
Thailand has a population of 71 million people with unique history, culture and tradition with about 95 percent being Buddhist. Being a state religion, Buddhism beliefs and practice permeates within monarchy, government, education, tradition and the way life. Thais say to be Thai is to be Buddhist and to be Buddhist is to be Thai.
Thailand is major economic center of South East Asia and one of the most popular tourist destination in the world. The country has about 200 years of protestant mission history, yet the country accounts for only about 0.65% Christians, of which majority are mountain tribal people in Northern Thailand. About 23% of total population live in Bangkok metropolitan area in which percentage of Christians are significantly lower than Northern region. Although there are no physical violence, many people converting to Christianity suffer societal discrimination and even rejection from family members. Thailand is considered one of the most unreached people in East Asia.
